Sunday Walks

Sunday walks are the bread and butter of YOG and tend to be between 10 and 14 miles in length (16 - 22 Km). On occasion they can be a bit longer or shorter, and this will be detailed in the programme.

Unless stated otherwise, walks leave by car at 0900 from Nunnery Lane Car Park in York. We operate a Car sharing scheme, whereby the passengers contribute petrol money at 20p a mile, shared between everyone in the car. This arrangement is at the drivers' discretion. Any spare cars are parked at a location with free parking. You don't need to have your own car to come on a walk.

When coming on one of our walks please ensure you have sturdy footwear, waterproofs, and enough consumables for a full day out in the wilds. If you need advice on what is suitable please contact the committee.

Evening Walks and Cycle Rides

Throughout the summer months when the nights are lighter, we also organise weekly evening walks and cycle rides. The evening walks are usually on a tuesday, start at 7.00 (meeting points vary) and are mostly between 4 and 6 miles; often ending with a pub stop.

The cycle rides on a thursday evening usually meet at Nunnery Lane Car Park at 7.00 and are around 20 - 25 miles; often with a pub stop along the way. Please bring lights for on the way home.

The evening walks and cyle rides start the second week in May and continue into mid - late August.

Weekend and Longer Trips

As well as Sunday and evening walks, we also organise monthly weekend trips further afield. These are usually walking or occasionally cycling trips; using hostels and other budget accommodation.

Social Events

Whilst our members are united in a love of the outdoors, we are also a very sociable group with a wide range of regular social events. These include pub nights, theatre and cinema trips, ceilidhs, parties, York pant, trips to the races and music events, restaurant meals, beer festivals and others too numerous to mention.
